Do you hate the look or color of your worn or outdated bathtub or sink? Re-finish it yourself! My Mother, the woman who can do anything, seems to know everything (or will go out of her way to find out the answer) had a tub in her main bath that she just couldn’t stand any longer.

The old tub had a scratched and worn surface that made all of her decorating in that bath seem “shabby” despite it’s colorful elegance. She kept the shower curtain closed just to hide the ugly thing! She decided that since bringing in a professional to re-paint it for her was going to cost more than she wanted to spend, with a little research, she found a product that allowed her to give it a brilliant, fresh finish for just $15.00

Popular Home Improvement stores now carry re-finishing kits that you can do yourself. This is a two day project as it requires 2 coats. It’s self leveling and looks like a brand new tub!

My biggest recommendation when re-finishing tubs, tile, counter tops, etc is to tape, tape, TAPE!!!! You need to protect surrounding areas to prevent product from being applied to those areas as well by mistake. When taping off an area, I apply blue painters tape and then “burnish” it with a tablespoon from the kitchen. This helps to “seal” the tape edges so that product or paint doesn’t slip up underneath (a problem we have ALL experienced before).

The thing about being a “do it yourself ” person is that you MUST be willing to have patience and to do it right, not rushing through the project or the outcome will be less than what you had hoped for, which is not only a waste of money, but of your precious time as well. We CAN do these projects and we CAN get spectacular, professional results!

In my younger days, I used to rush through projects like this, thinking I could speed the process along by skipping bits of the instructions that didn’t seem important, or not taking the time to pre-prep or tape surrounding areas effectively. After years of being disappointed with my own “do it yourself” projects, I finally learned. So do take your time, relax and don’t worry if a project “takes two coats” or it takes a few days to cure and harden. That’s a small price to pay for a project you will be completely delighted with and will last you for years to come.… READ MORE

Many carpet owners would prefer to find a good cleaning product and then staying with it for a long period of time while there are those who are constantly searching for a better one to use on their carpets.

In today’s age where carpet cleaning has become a very competitive industry, you can find a ton of cleaning products for your carpet in the grocery or the store. This can make for a difficult time in choosing which product you are going to use in your home. Don’t Be Convinced Easily by Great Ads and Packaging – Marketing has had a huge impact in the buying trends of homeowners. But this is not always a good thing. While people will undoubtedly buy things from what they see on the TV commercials, ads or even the packaging, you may not end up with a great product as you expected. This is because marketing doesn’t really equate to results, and in carpet cleaning results is the one that ultimately matters most. Don’t fall prey to pretty ads and great packaging, be wise and look for the product which can give you the best results in cleaning your carpet.

Don’t Buy Based on Cost Alone – This is one mistake that many people commit. There are two ways that you can actually make this mistake. One is buying a very cheap cleaning solution to save money and the other is to buy an expensive one thinking that it is the best one available. The cost of the item should not be your barometer in choosing it. You should look to more factors such as results and if it will fit your carpet cleaning needs. If you buy a very cheap cleaning solution, you may end up with the results which are equal to what you pay for, which will only cause you a big headache. Look for a good balance between price and results in order to find the best cleaning product for your carpet.
